The incident, which occurred in December 2024, has garnered widespread attention following allegations of harassment made by the deceased against his wife and in-laws.
The Legal Proceedings
Bail Plea and High Court Intervention
The accused moved a joint bail plea on December 19, 2024, before the Bengaluru sessions court. The Karnataka High Court, in a directive issued on December 31, instructed the sessions court to decide on the bail plea by January 4. Although the state prosecutor initially sought an extension until January 6 to file objections, the court proceeded with the decision as per the high court’s timeline.
Arrests and Allegations
The arrests were made based on a complaint filed by Atul Subhash’s brother at the Marathahalli police station in Bengaluru. Nikita Singhania was apprehended in Gurugram, Haryana, while Nisha Singhania and Anurag Singhania were detained in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, on December 15, 2024. Following their arrest, the three were produced before a Bengaluru court and remanded to judicial custody.
The complainant accused the trio of demanding Rs 3 crore to withdraw police cases filed against Atul Subhash and Rs 30 lakh for visitation rights to see his son. The accused, however, argued that their arrest was unlawful, claiming procedural lapses by the police.

Marriage and Legal Disputes
Atul Subhash, a native of Uttar Pradesh and a software professional, married Nikita Singhania in 2019. The couple’s relationship deteriorated, leading to separation and a series of legal battles. Subhash faced nine cases, including charges of murder, dowry harassment, and unnatural sex, some of which also implicated his parents.
Subhash’s Final Words
Before his death, Atul Subhash left a 24-page death note detailing his struggles, along with an 81-minute video elaborating on his ordeal. He accused his in-laws of harassment and financial extortion, and alleged bias by a family court judge in Uttar Pradesh who, he claimed, favored his wife’s family.
Family’s Statements
Bikas Kumar, Atul Subhash’s brother, filed the complaint leading to the arrests. In his statement, he alleged, “My brother has been mentally and physically drained since the court battles began. He was constantly mocked and told to die if he couldn’t meet their demands.”
